After I got to know Jakob through CrossFit in 2015 in the gymnastics courses, I discovered my passion for gymnastics and especially for the handstand, which I did not master at that time at all – and for Jakob as a trainer; namely for his absolutely empathetic, motivating, calm and at the right moment sometimes very humorous way of handling in training. Since he always finds the right tone and the best way of motivation for every type of person, I even dared to give him my teenage daughter(15) for training. Even if this was the hardest test, he actually managed to motivate her to do sport to this day. A great performance, I think!
At the age of almost 50 I have now decided to make the motto “Life is better up side down” my ultimate goal; preferably one-handed ;-). For almost 4 months now I have been training regularly with Jakob and the result makes me a little proud.
But Jakob also manages to catch the bad days, these days with the small regressions, well, to give personal tips and to work on the quite individual weaknesses (with me a hip disease)…. and then it goes uphill again or even upside down – with a smile on the face.
I trained with Jakob for over 2 years, both in groups and in 1-to-1 sessions and couldn’t recommend him more! I started with Crossfit and Gymnastics when my physical condition was very basic but thanks to him I quickly gained confidence in what my body could do. He did not only focus on strength and speed, but placed a lot of focus on mobility and correct posture, essential for any athlete. When I got pregnant Jakob adapted our trainings to my new needs – he perfectly understood how body changes during this phase and tailored my routine so I could stay fit in a safe way for both me and my baby. I could not be more thankful to him for helping me stay active until the end of my pregnancy, as it made my recovery quick and easy!
As a child I always found gymnasts, athletes and artists very exciting and admirable. At some point in my early adulthood I realized that I wanted to be able to do it myself. So I came across the gymnastic courses of Jakob via Crossfit on the Rhine, which I still enjoy taking part in. But I wanted to intensify my training and asked him about PT hours.
And meanwhile I train with Jakob for more than a year and it is still a lot of fun and every time again instructive for me. Since then my body has become stronger, more agile, more mobile and more athletic. My focus is to have a healthy body and Jakob supports me as a trainer. It is more than just a simple workout, it is varied, and he responds individually to your needs and goals with his empathetic, calm manner. A really very good and competent trainer, where I feel very well taken care of.
Therefore absolutely recommendable to get the best out of you and that always with a portion of humor. Because you should have fun in training, which is definitely the case here. 🙂
I appreciate Jakob as a very empathetic trainer with a great deal of expertise, who has always motivated me to progress with many different exercises. He is very individual and adapts the exercises, if necessary, to the individual’s level of performance in order to progress step by step and reach the next higher goal. Whether healthy or injured one is in good and professional hands with him. He has also successfully accompanied me through the time after a herniated disc. After some years as a trainer in group lessons I also like his individual lessons, in which he follows a personal training plan – every lesson is a lot of fun and time flies by! At the age of 51, he has brought me to exercises and skills that I used to dream of. These are for example a solid freestanding handstand or a muscle up without momentum. With his very pleasant character he makes every single lesson so that you always look forward to the next lesson.
My name is Flavio, I live in Düsseldorf and I am 53 years old. I have been doing sports since my youth, especially gymnastics and swimming. In the later years I trained mostly in a normal fitness studio, but that bored me more and more. 3 years ago I discovered Crossfit Training and was immediately enthusiastic about it. In the studio Crossfit on the Rhine I got to know Jakob as a trainer. What I especially like about the training with him is that he is very motivating and it is great fun with him. He has many new ideas that always make training exciting and challenging. Because I liked it so much, I have booked many personal training hours with him together with a small group of friends since then. As a result, I have developed a lot, especially in the area of gymnastics/calisthenics, and have achieved many goals that I never expected. Thanks to Jakob in particular, my mobility has improved considerably. Every week I look forward to the PT hours with Jakob. I can absolutely recommend training with him – also because of his friendly and funny nature!
Jakob is not only a great fitness trainer but has also become a real friend over the years: Helpful, friendly, professional, reliable, understanding and fully focused on the person (and not the paying customer). I have been training with Jakob since 2015 and he has helped me to get out of a low point in form and sport at that time and motivated me over the last few years to always stay on the ball. Jakob has always adapted to my changing interests (cross-fit, weights, endurance, etc.) and challenged and promoted me with a lot of specialist knowledge. Even in phases of injuries, stress or professional/private challenges he always encouraged me to stay positive. I am happy to have such a great person as Jakob in my life.
Based on this trustful friendship, Jakob has been accompanying our almost 100 employees of Elliott Browne in Düsseldorf for several years now within the framework of weekly training hours. In groups of 5 to 20 participants, Jakob constantly adapts to changing people and fitness levels and brings each individual further.
Jakob has also suggested several team bonding events within our company course: We participated in a Tough Mudder race under Jakob’s guidance, and in cooperation with Crossfit am Rhein we organised an Elliott Browne Fitness Olympiad, which our employees still rave about today.
Since my youth I have been enthusiastic about sports and have played basketball in the league for years. After the end of my basketball career I discovered Crossfit, which is an optimal balance to my job. In the CFAR-Box I got to know Jakob as a coach. I then approached him to improve my crossfit skills and prepare myself for master competitions.
As a personal trainer, Jakob drew up individual training plans for me every week, according to which I trained three times a week. The exercises were very varied. Jakob gave me the opportunity to give feedback every week. In this way he was able to adapt the training specifically to my level of performance and always motivate me. What I found very good was that Jakob always had an open ear and also responded to my change requests.
Through our conversations, my weekly tasks and his sporting expertise, which he gave me, I was able to learn a lot about myself and my body. In particular, my mobility and mobility have improved considerably, which has allowed me to increase my performance enormously in cross-fitting. Jakob is a great trainer who continues to improve his skills in order to integrate new aspects into his daily training routine. That’s why it never gets boring with him.
I can only recommend Jakob.
When I started CrossFit about 3 years ago, I couldn’t have imagined that I would actually passionately do a sport on a regular basis over a longer period of time. I have always been quite an active person. However, constant repetitions of the same or very similar routines are simply not for me in the long run. That’s why in the past my 5-6 attempts to regularly go to a gym failed miserably. Especially with the big franchise gyms a proper consulting and advice is not included in the monthly costs. At least in my experience.
Due to the constant sitting and all the stress in my everyday office life, at some point the orthopaedist at the time diagnosed me with a disc protrusion. This was a clear signal to me that if I did not want to spend my life with regular appointments at the doctors and taking painkillers, I would have to overcome one’s weaker self and do something for my body. After doing some boxing, a little yoga and various exercises at home, I came to CrossFit via a good friend.
From here on one thing came to another. From the first moment when one becomes aware of the state of one’s own fitness to the moment when one plans one’s free time around the sport.
I got to know Jakob through CrossFit and Fitness am Rhein. He teaches various courses there. Primarily the Gymnastics courses. During these courses I also made the most progress for myself and at some point I noticed that I have much more fun with body weight exercises than moving big weights. But what was even more important, here I got a stronger awareness for my body. How every movement, the right body tension and the correct sequence of movements are more than important for every exercise. Here, Jakob’s classes flipped a switch in my head. In the courses Jakob always tries to be very responsive to the participants, to answer questions, to give help and tips. Of course, this is not always as detailed as one might wish due to the number of participants of up to 14 in a course. One notices very quickly his educational background. Which is an important component for a good trainer. But there is also the devotion to the sport itself and the people.
In the courses you can only work on your deficits to a certain extent.
Therefore, after about 1.5 years, I came to the point where I wanted to change something in order to achieve a more precise progress. This was the time where I started with personal training with Jakob. Due to his broad qualifications Jakob is able to deal with everything in a systematic way. Be it restrictions in mobility, problems due to injuries, wrong technique or other things. At the beginning I wanted to tackle many things in
parallel, because I felt that I had too many deficiencies that needed to be addressed. Jakob helped me a lot to find a better focus and to approach things in a more systematic way. Through personal training, he automatically gave me an even deeper understanding of the individual exercises, progressions, mobility and the connections between certain exercises.
Another important point for me is that Jakob constantly educates himself and incorporates the newly acquired knowledge into the training, both in the courses and in the personal training hours. This is something that clearly distinguishes him from many other trainers. Through the conversations during personal training with him, my own interest was also awakened more and more. I am regularly looking for new exercises and progressions to help me achieve my goals. I create my own workouts, where a lot of the experience from the lessons with Jakob gets integrated. Jakob is also very helpful in this respect and gives feedback on the workouts and helps me to achieve the goals I have set myself.
Even when the supraspinatus tendon in my right shoulder was slightly ripped, Jakob helped me to strengthen my shoulder muscles so that I didn’t have to make a big step back in my goals during the healing process. Even on the contrary, in some areas I came out strengthened.
In a nutshell. If you are looking for a trainer who really takes time for you, who is very responsive on your wishes or who helps you to find a focus to reach your goals, then I personally can only recommend Jakob to everyone. His enthusiasm for sport has the potential to infect you. He regularly motivates not to give up and shows alternative ways to achieve your goals. After a few hours you will notice that Jakob is not only a very good trainer but also a wonderful person. You will not only learn more about the sport and the exercises, but take away so much more on a personal level.
I had always been training throughout my life, being healthy is a daily goal I aspire to and focus on. From the moment I shook hands with Coach Jakob on our first meet, I could feel his passion and love for fitness, health and more importantly positive thinking! Within a couple of weeks of training with him, I felt I was building strength and confidence physically, mentally and he always challenged me to learn more which kept our training session so fresh and always ended before I even realized. I ended up training five times a week with him and enlisted my husband in a separate session and also my kids. And again Coach Jakob personalized each of their training to deal with their issues and more importantly build on their confidence and positive awareness of themselves. He truly goes the extra mile with each session; leaving us excited and proud of our input and focused on the positivity of the day. He has ample space to listen, process and respond to issues on the spot from his vast experiences and self taught and acquired knowledge and shares it readily to empower us and keep us up to date and challenging us to want to do better and learn more. I have to admit with all my years of personal training Coach Jakob ranks as my favourite by a mile and is an investment worth every second! I still call him Coach, but I consider him and we all in the house share this feeling too, as we call him a very close trusted friend!
Jakob is a trusted and knowledgeable trainer who we welcomed in our home for over a year as we trained daily with him whilst we lived in Duesseldorf. He tailor makes each programme and changes it as we progress and then changes it again to work on weakness as we identify them. I found my body better balanced in strength left to right side and after every hour we spent so much more satisfied that it truly framed the day beautifully regardless of how hard my day had been in the office especially with the hectic schedule I have as a CEO.
Jakob is the perfect combination of tough yet warm and he knows how to connect with his clients in order to get the best out of them. He teaches me the “how”, “what” and “why” of what we are doing as we move through each exercise. Jakob has not only made my goals seem completely attainable, but he has truly motivated me to challenge myself and persevere through the mental blocksI was originally looking to have only five training sessions with Jakob. In just three sessions, I noticed an immediate improvement with my running. At the end of the five sessions, I noticed I had gained more strength and muscle in my legs and upper body. My technique had vastly improved and for the very time in my life, I was able to do a negative pull-up.I immediately made the decision to continue training with him on a permanent basis. There are many personal trainers in the world. However, very few of them poses a vast amount of specialized and diverse knowledge with experience and dedication to their clients the way Jakob does. This is extremely beneficial for his clients, especially if one has had a major injury as I did. I had to undergo surgery for a ruptured rotator cuff and bone reconstruction. Jakob not only helped raise my spirits on the days I was struggling, but he possessed the knowledge and expertise on how to help me gain my strength back. In under a year I am stronger on some exercises than where I was prior to the injury and I have Jakob’s knowledge and dedication to thank for this.
The training with Jakob stands out clearly from my previous personal trainer experience:
For me as a “crossfitter” the strengthening of my shoulders as well as the mobility of the whole body was in the foreground. Jakob managed to make enormous progress in these areas with me in a short time.
He selects above all functional and intensive exercises that are tailored to me and motivates me every time anew to top performance thanks to his empathic and competent manner.
He constantly provides new incentives and motivation boosts, making him the ideal trainer for me.
Jakob led me back to the triathlon after an inner band & meniscus rupture. With constant variations between stretching and strengthening exercises the knee was challenged and promoted.
Boredom has never arisen although pure strength training actually
isn’t my thing.
Although my knee is functional again, I will continue to rely on Jakob as my personal trainer. I give you the maximum number of points and a heartfelt recommendation.
My name is Taskin, I am from Düsseldorf and changed from “Standard-Fitness” to Crossfit, where I found Jakob. I train as long as I can think and thought that I was fit enough. However, Jakob improved my view of the sport considerably. Having a coach like him at my side who is specially focused on you gives me the certainty that I am in good hands. It’s not just the personality, it’s the ability to use your knowledge in a targeted way. This knowledge is reflected in my sporting progress. It not only improved my muscle strength and endurance, but also my mobility. I am much more flexible and agile than before. This keeps me stable during abrupt movements in everyday life, so that I am not exposed to the danger of injury.
Recently I took private lessons with Jakob with the aim of optimizing my handstand. I would like to have the patience he brings with him to teach me this. In order to learn the exercise, a video analysis is made of the theory in order to explore in the smallest detail what can be improved.
This kind of attentive coaching is almost a guarantee to reach my goal, not only in serious mode, but also with a lot of fun. Jakob showed me a completely different way of “sports life”, so I had to ask myself what I had been doing the last few years. Sport is one of the most important things in our lives to stay healthy, vital and to achieve a long life. In this case, I can highly recommend Jakob as a coach. Having him as a trainer was a huge stroke of luck for me and I wish everyone the same experience I had with him.
THANK YOU Jakob.
My first encounter with Jakob was in November 2016 in Crossfit am Rhein in Düsseldorf. I was looking for a sportive challenge in the winter months, because there was only a limited possibility to train triathlon. The first training took place in a small group of new leagues and I felt insecure because I didn’t know what to expect and how to be accepted. After the first minutes my uniqueness was dissolved and I have to thank Jakob as coach for that. He immediately created a pleasant and familiar atmosphere and felt me personally noticed. It was impressive how quickly he noticed even the most difficult names of the participants, and that with lasting effect.
In the months that followed, I realized that I enjoyed attending his courses very much and asked myself why. What is special about Jakob? I didn’t have to think long: Charisma, professional competence, a trained eye for individual performance levels, the ease with which he explains, shows and lets feel topics. He reacts quickly and professionally to changed situations when carrying out the exercises. And the whole thing seems natural and authentic: encouraging and demanding, honest, with which he illustrates the hard, long road to success, and always cordial.
Over the years we have been talking more often, not only about sport, but also about nutrition and lifestyle. He regards sport as part of the whole, what makes us different and can give good tips about other puzzle parts of life, which he has even often tried out himself. He is a trainer who sets an example by teaching the participants.
My world is upside down – not only during the handstand (walk), which we now practice regularly together with two other friends in a small group. We experiment and make progress and always have a lot of fun without losing sight of the goal.
Through the training sessions with Jakob I learned more composure and sovereignty, which I regularly need in my leadership position.
He showed me new perspectives, through which I discovered hidden and unconscious abilities and the love of gymnastics, which I no longer want to miss.
We continue …
